Fundraising Strategy

Success Through Planning
Because “failing to plan is planning to fail," we’ve made Fundraising Strategy the first contest of our GlobalTribe Challenge.

We encourage ALL GlobalTribe chapters to submit an entry.  In doing so, you will create a roadmap for your campaign – something your chapter should have anyway.

Once you’ve formed a chapter, decide as a group 1) what fundraising events you want to organize, 2) who’s responsible for them, 3) what your fundraising targets are for each event, and 4) what needs to be done to meet those targets.

We’ve created a form that you can use to formulate your strategy. Download it, fill it out, and enter it in the contest.

Ambition & Creativity
Be ambitious, but most of all, be creative. Plan your events so that potential donors will enjoy being there. If they do, you can count on them to show up the next time.

Go beyond your school walls and fundraise from adults – at your church, at your parents’ workplace, etc.

Think Beyond the Cause
Often, you want donors to give you money because they believe in your cause. But you can also raise funds by offering goods and services people want, whether they understand your campaign or not.  Both approaches work.

Other considerations to keep in mind:

  • Teamwork: Are you recruiting as many people as you can to be involved?
  • Creativity: Are your activities original enough to get people’s attention?
  • Think Big: The bigger your events, the more inspired and driven your members will be.  But don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
  • Think Small: Plan activities that would allow you to fundraise on a daily or weekly basis (i.e. selling bracelets, organizing car washes and bake sales).
  • Ripple Effect: Ask people to do more than donate money, ask them to help you fundraise.  Turn donors into champions for your cause.

Each chapter may submit ONE entry by April 1, 2005.
