Indian photographer, Gautam Narang, 20, focused his lens on a charity that provides free education and vocational training to girls from the poorest segment of society.
Mornings at the Pardada Pardadi Girls Vocational School are devoted to academics whereas afternoons are spent learning textile work. Each student is also given a bank account and paid for products she makes. By the time she finishes the program (10-years), she would have 100,000 rupees (US$2,200) saved.
Gautam's essay shows what a typical day is like a the school. Be sure to read his artistic statement. |

Genocide or not, what's happening in Sudan amounts to one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. It's not easy for the outside world to understand the situation and distinguish all the different players in the conflict. Amy Costello's report is a good starting point. She travels with peacekeepers of the African Union to investigate the roots of the conflict, which has left 70,000 dead and a million more displaced. |
